NWT sponsors The Change Foundation annual golf day

On Thursday, we showed our support for The Change Foundation (TCF) in attending their annual golf day.

NewWorldTech’s three teams journeyed to Foxhills Golf and Country Club in Chertsey, Surrey, all hoping to get their hands on the Graeme Porteous Trophy. The event helped raise crucial funds for the charity, which was set up to aid young people during the Brixton Riots in 1981 and has since remained in similarly vulnerable areas, using sport as a means of distracting from the surrounding social issues.

One of their current initiatives is making regular visits to the Ukrainian border with Poland to entertain the children of families fleeing the ongoing conflict. Their work offers some respite to parents and carers facing desperate circumstances, so the golf day was an opportunity to continue supporting its vital work that has an overwhelming impact on the frontline while enjoying a beautiful day in the sun.

As guests arrived and tucked into the breakfast buffet, temperatures were already exceeding 20 °C. They were then treated to a cocktail masterclass (of sorts) by NWT’s very own Matt Gunn and James Magee, whose expert (novice) skills made sure everyone was in high spirits before they layered up in sun-cream and headed to their starting positions.

The four-ball, better-ball competition was arranged in a shotgun format, so each team teed off at their designated starting hole when the klaxon sounded at midday.

Plenty of prizes were up for grabs, including the longest drive of the afternoon at Hole 17, one of three sponsored by NWT.
Matt and James were kept busy, handing out water to make sure all the players kept cool and hydrated throughout. Ditchling Spirits also had a marquee next to the halfway hut, sampling and selling their signature gin and toffee vodka, just in case anyone needed something stronger to shake off the frustration of a tough round!

Our pair of helpers then assisted those setting up the BBQ banquet for the evening as the golfers finished up and arrived at the clubhouse.

Dinner was hosted by former London Wasps no. 8 Peter Scrivener, who announced the winners of the day’s prizes. One of the NewWorldTech teams came in second overall, with strong performances from the other two teams meaning that all of our teams finished in the top half!

Scrivener held a series of games over dinner that boosted the total raised for TCF, culminating with the auctions, which led to some NWT players walking away with some fantastic packages!

The evening finished with some wine tasting which gave everyone a chance to mingle and enjoy some conversation, capping off what was a wonderful day that generated some much-needed funds for a tremendous cause.
